Mumbai Indians win match number 49 held at Jaipur against Chennai Super Kings by 60 runs. Although their top order batsman, Michael Hussey was dropped thrice by Kieron Pollard in three consecutive balls off Mitchell Johnson but they still could not manage to win a comfortable target of 139 runs.
Johnson was bowling really great in the match as he took wickets of their top order batsmen all in a hurry in just one over. He took wickets of Murali Vijay, Suresh Raina and S. Badrinath all in one over. Chennai collapsed of the quick wickets and could never recover of those deep blows and due to which Chennai Super Kings had to suffer a defeat of 60 runs.
This was the lowest total of the Chennai Super Kings till now in all six seasons of IPL scoring only 79/10 in 15.2 overs. Pollard dropped another catch of Ravindra Jadeja again on the ball of Johnson making his total four catches dropped in the day.
The wickets which could have been more than 3/27 of Johnson’s spell were eventually stopped all because of dropped catches. Mumbai Indians got a good start of 40 runs in just 6.5 overs before Tendulkar went off to the pavilion. Just in quick succession Smith, Pollard was out of the park. It was Rohit Sharma and Harbhajan Singh who made a much needed partnership of 57 runs and made a stand out for their team. The final score was not a bad one which came out to be 139/5.
Their 11th win of the tournament made them jump to the number 3 position in the points table ahead of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals. Initial few overs were very troublesome for the Mumbai Indians and could manage to score only 47 runs in 10 overs. It was the latter half of their innings where they gained the momentum.
Tendulkar was out off Jadeja getting LBW and soon took wickets of Kieron Pollard and Dinesh Karthik as well. Then Ashwin took the wicket of Ambati Rayudu soon after which Mumbai Indians seem to shatter away. Mumbai’s 139 score seemed to be really competitive in the end for them and they did not have to pay back for the dropped catches of small target.
